Nestle to Buy Bountiful’s Main Brands for $5.75 billion

The world’s largest food and beverage company Nestle agreed to buy vitamin maker Bountiful Company for $5.75 billion. The deal is hoping to be completed during the second half of this year.

“This acquisition complements our existing health and nutrition portfolio in terms of brands and channels,” said Greg Behar, the CEO of Nestle Health Science. Behar added, “the purchase — from private equity firms KKR & Co. and Carlyle — should double e-commerce revenue from supplements to about $1 billion this year”.

The value of the amount that Nestle will be paying is 3.1 times the value of Bountiful’s sales for the brands. It is equal to a multiple of 16.8 times of their earnings before interest before tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).

UK Companies’ confidence at two-year high

Business confidence has hit its highest level for two and a half years, a survey suggests.

The latest Lloyds Bank Business Barometer found that overall business confidence had increased by 14 percentage points to 29 per cent in April, beating the long-term average of 28 per cent.

Both business and consumer confidence are being bolstered by the easing of lockdown and the success of the vaccination programme. Lloyds said that companies were feeling more hopeful about their trading prospects, with the relevant sub-index rising by 13 percentage points to 25 per cent — the biggest monthly rise for nearly four years. Optimism about the economy rose by 15 percentage points to 32 per cent.

Alex Oh resigned from her role as enforcement director at the SEC only days after taking the job due to criticism over her work as a corporate defense lawyer.

The SEC didn’t mention reasons for Oh’s resignation in a statement released on Wednesday. 

However, Oh reportedly resigned after District Judge Royce Lamberth issued an order on Monday, questioning her practice in a deposition in a lawsuit filed against ExxonMobil, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Attorney Melissa Hodgman will return to the role of acting director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, the agency said.
